National Walk to School Week – Walking on Wednesdays

Our school got involved in the National Walk to School Week which is running from the 15th - 19th of May. As we are quite a rural school lots of our children travel either by car or bus but we didn't let this stop us organising our new initiative " Walk on Wednesday". We are asking parents to drop their children at the local sports field, which is located up the hill from our school. Once the children have gathered we will walk as a school down to the school, ready to start our day. We are going to do this every Wednesday for the rest of the term. Wake Up, Shake Up will also continue for the rest of the term. The WUSU leaders will be out in force with new routines every Wednesday after break. Keep up the great work girls. 🙂

5 Km

Our 5 Km marathon run was launched on May 15th. Every pupil in our school will run the equivalent of 6km over the coming weeks, on our track around the all weather pitch. 6 laps is equivalent of 1km. Classes will keep a record of their progress on our "Scores on Doors" template. Keep an eye out for some pictures soon.

Easter Egg hunt

Our Junior and Senior Infants were lucky enough to take part in an Easter Egg hunt. The egg hunt was organised and guided by the senior members of the Active Committee. The children were very excited and they were successful in their hunt for the eggs. Two children were even lucky enough to find golden eggs. Well done everyone and we hope you all have a great Easter.

Walk to Dublin Update

On December 5th we launched our “ Walk to Dublin”. This initiative involves walking 120km during school hours. Mr Foran along with his class, worked out that 5 and ¾ laps of our all weather pitch is equal to 1km. Each class was given a record sheet and they were asked to walk and record as many Kms as they could on a weekly basis. At the end of each week the data is collected and updated to see how the school is getting on with the challenge. We completed our walk to Dublin on the 22nd of February 2017. Everyone was very happy to finally arrive at the G.P.O in O' Connell Street. We walked a combined total of 119.5km altogether. Well done everyone.

Halloween Hike

At Halloween, all the children took part in our Halloween fancy dress hike. The weather was on our side for the day and everyone was feeling active and ready to go. We went out onto our all weather pitch and each class from Junior Infant’s right up to Sixth Class walked, ran or skipped a lap or two around the pitch. We were delighted to see everyone dressing up and all the costumes were scarily fantastic.
